No more gunning for Gilbert...
Gibert Arenas has never been one to shy away from speaking his mind. Heck, his big mouth was one of the main reasons why he got into the whole gun incident in the first place. Now that the Wizard's guard has finished his 50 game suspension and month in a halfway house, we'll finally get to see how his talkin translates to the court for the upcoming season, where the big question is how he can coexist with number one draft pick (and SJTM winner) John Wall. But before the season starts, commisioner David Stern has already threw his hat into the ring in an attempt to mute the current aura of Agent Zero. Today, he advised Arenas and the Washington Wizards to not bring up Arenas' felony gun possession in an attempt to hasten the repairing of Arenas' image with the general public. It's anyone's guess as to whether Gilbert will comply with Stern's request. On the one hand, I can see Arenas using it towards other players as an intimidating reminder of what he's capable of. But on the other hand, I'm thinking (hoping) that Gilbert has to have some common sense and realize that talking about keeping guns in a locker room is not a good way to stay in the NBA and close out his career.

MLB Clubhouses Now Officially? No-Gun Zones
Wow, I'm really glad they finally put these signs up. I mean, clearly after the Arenas episode, the no-guns-in-the-workplace rule was not common sense. In my opinion, the fact that these are even necessary is just pathetic.

Stern Puts Arenas in Timeout
NBA commissioner David Stern has just decided on the punishment for Washington Wizards’ Gilbert Arenas: suspension for the remainder of the season. It has yet to be decided whether he will get the rest of his $16 million for this year. Am I the only one who thinks it’s crazy that he’s getting let off so easily?
Up until today, the players union had still been hoping that Stern would allow Arenas to play sooner than next season if they created a zero-tolerance gun policy. WHAT?? If they CREATED a zero-tolerance gun policy? Does that mean that the acceptance of guns was like a grey area before? In what messed-up world does it need to be laid out that guns are not allowed in the work place? It’s common sense if you ask me.
Ask any middle school student what the punishment would be if they brought a gun to school. I’m willing to bet my right arm (or at least my left pinky toe) that each and every one would reply with expulsion. If they were under the impression that they would be punished with a short little time out where they still got to play with their toys, I have a feeling the rule wouldn’t go over so well. Now what if an employee busted out a 12 gauge in the middle of the break room? Yea, I’m going to go ahead and say that unless you’re a cop, you would be f.i.r.e.d. on the spot. But what does Arenas get? A measly suspension and possibly the rest of his $16 mil for sitting on the sidelines. Must be nice, Arenas

Arenas Won't be in the Arena Anytime Soon
Through a plea agreement, Washington Wizards player (well, sorta) has plead guilty to a felony gun charge after admitting that he kept guns in his locker without a gun. Again, has Bassy Telfair taught us nothing?
Arenas faces between 6 months and 2 years of "time" for his crime. He may be given probation instead of jail time at his sentencing on March 26. Regardless, the NBA has suspended Arenas indefinitely.

Life Lessons from Bassy Telfair
If there is anything that Bassy Telfair has taught us it is not bring guns with you to basketball practice. Apparently Arenas and Crittenton didn't get the memo. Allegedly Arenas brought 4 guns with him to practice two days after a gambling dispute with his teammate, Crittenton. After Arenas left a note along with the 4 guns requesting that Crittenton "pick one," Arenas found himself at the other end of the barrel.
At this point, I will share an archived classic:
Telfair's Nameplate Gives Way to Apple Strudel Poptarts
"He seems to have a recurrent handgun issue. He also seems to have an expired driver's license issue and a wrong-place-at-the-wrong-time issue. He is a soon-to-be-former Celtic, at least according to co-owner Wyc Grousbeck, who alerted the media via e-mail to the fact that Sebastian Telfair was not going to be a part of any Celtics' plans. 'I wanted to let you know that we have removed Sebastian's nameplate from his locker in Waltham,' Grousbeck wrote. 'The facts and circumstances of his case have not yet been determined but he does not have a Celtics locker and we do not anticipate that he will.'" -Telfair didn't belong in Boston, Bob Ryan, Boston Globe
Ok, first of all, "wrong-place-at-the-wrong-time issue". I would venture to say, and I'm just spitballin' here, the real problem is most likely it's just about always the wrong time when it comes to Sebastian Telfair. [At this juncture you should throw on Eminem's "Criminal", which is the soundtrack for this blog entry.] Not that I am shadowing Telfair as part of his security detail (as it's pretty clear he's got that handled himself) and would know exactly how he spends his time but I mean, come on! Most people can get through a lifetime without criminal charges. He can't make it one year!
There is a group of "compassionate people" out there that think the Celtics should wait until it has been determined for sure that the gun did not belong to his "girlfriend". First of all, that excuse is getting old. "Seems" to have a handgun issue is an understatement. I think it's pretty clear at this point that he does in fact have a recurrent handgun "issue". And last time I checked carrying around a loaded handgun is against league rules regardless of whether it licensed to your "girlfriend". Of course, he wasn't working at the time of the most recent incident, but Telfair has proven he's a huge liability, the Celtics have enough problems as it is.
In other news, apple strudel poptarts are pretty good. Check 'em out. Perhaps they can take over Telfair's spot on the Celtic's bench. They don't pack heat...
And coming soon: Why Sebastian Telfair should have taken advantage of a free education.
