T minus 10 minutes: the University of Michigan will hold a 12:30 pm news conference “to talk about the state of the football program under the direction of head coach Rich Rodriguez."
The conference will be streamed live on MGoBlue.com. Tune in.
Coaches Jim Tressel and Lloyd Carr are walking down the beach talking about the rivalry between Ohio State and Michigan. As they are walking, Lloyd trips over something in the sand. Upon closer inspection it turns out to be a genie’s lamp. “Who disturbs me?” asked the genie. Jim and Lloyd both say they did. “You will each get one wish,” said the genie. Jim offers to go first. “I want an impenetrable wall built around the entire state of Ohio so that none of those stupid Michiganders can ever get in. I want it as far down into the ground as it is high and I want it to be completely sealed in so that we can finally have our peace!” The genie grants the wish to Jim and he is instantly whisked away to his new paradise. The genie now tells Lloyd he’ll grant him one wish. Lloyd says, “Fill it with water.”
Yes, it's that time of year. Michigan will be facing Ohio State on Saturday, and let's all plan on watching the upset of the century in the Big House. Keep your hopes up that Rich Rodriguez can pull through. More jokes to come...
The Michigan Wolverines took on the Purdue Boilermakers in what was initially scheduled as an easy victory. At halftime, Michigan looked like they were finally on their way to a much-needed win over Purdue.By the end of the fourth quarter, the Wolverines were trailing by two after a touchdown from Brandon Minor, who was the only ray of hope in an otherwise pitiful performance.Tate Forcier was sacked when he tried for the two-point conversion, as hope deflated from the Big House.
This marks the first win for the Boilermakers at Michigan since 1966.Coach Rodriguez stated, “The season is not over,” but it very well may be unless Michigan wins at Wisconsin next week or versus Ohio State at home the following week. Without a win, the Wolverines will not play in a bowl game for the second year in a row.
The Michigan Wolverines, ranked #25 coming into the weekend, may have a chance to move up in the rankings after their 45-17 creaming of Eastern Michigan University. Not only did the Wolverines crush the Eagles (thanks in no small part to senior Carlos Brown’s 187 rushing yards), but they also defeated former UM defensive coordinator Ron English. Side note: English played a large part in recruiting the junior and senior classes who are now playing under Rich Rodriguez.
The Wolverines were not ranked at the beginning of the season, but things are looking up with what should be an easy home game versus Indiana next week. They already have as many wins now as they did for the entire 2008 football season (3), so even if you’re in the mood to be pessimistic, the team definitely won’t be worse than last year.
My final post today centers around the Tshirts that have been floating around Ann Arbor on game days... Serena, you might have to bring some sports fashion pointers and class to Ann Arbor because the latest trend in gameday wear is a t-shirt that states, " I want Rich Rod's, Rich Rod," might make me flip a table. Come on girls, can we please keep it moderately classy... I am totally ok with the "Buck the Fuckeye" and any t-shirt making fun of Charlie Weis... but really?
Considering I once I saw some Wolverines open up a fire hose on some unfortunate Buckeyes, I think Rich will definitely be feeling some heat and months of smearing.
As college football season nears there is a lot of talk surrounding Michigan football. Although Rich Rodriguez had a highly public "bad" first season at Michigan I believe Michigan will have a much better season this year. First of all, last year wasn't soooo bad. Although Michigan wasn't able to pull out clutch wins, I attribute most of their failures to a very young team who played sloppy football. Most of the allowed points last season resulted from turnovers at the hand of a very young freshman not suited for Rodriguez's offense. Pass completion was low but oh so close - making it more painful to watch.
The team is still young. However, many of the players saw significant playing time last year that will likely result in more experienced, albeit still young, ballers. I am eager to see what a year of experience coupled with a new quarterback, better suited for Rodriquez's offense, will bring this season.
