Tips to Watching Football – Part 2

Is the defense playing zone or man-to-man? Just watch the cornerback’s hips/ass!

Football 101: A cornerback (CB) is a defensive player that typically covers the wide receiver (WR). Generally the CB runs down the field (with the WR) and tries to prevent the WR from catching the ball. Sometimes referred to as the “secondary” (defensive players that are not on or near the line of scrimmage (not defensive linesman or linebackers).

Famous CBs: Deion Sanders, Charles Woodson. and Asante Samuel

What to watch: The CBs hips/butt.
Butt is towards the sideline = ZONE (will try to funnel his man to the inside of the field).

Hips square to the WR/angled toward the middle of the field = man-to-man (will try to force the WR to the outside/sideline).
