A little wolverines desperate plea for sanity...

While watching Michigan VS BC and drinking a Miller High Life last night, I found myself in the company of a Buckeye, who also went to Penn St, who also is a Peyton Manning fan... How did this happen? There was a good hour where a Mr. Smith was trying to convince me that if I just went to the Horseshoe Stadium that I would fall head over heels and become a Buckeye. OK granted it was named a Historic Landmark on the greatest day of the year, March 22, which just so happens to be the day when all the world celebrates my birthday... but this does not mean that there is any chance that I will now or ever consider becoming a Buckeye. I mean the Shoe doesn't even have night lighting and I would never associate myself with a smelly, poisonous nut let alone a Peyton Manning fan. Where have all the Wolverines gone??? Come back please! Ann Arbor is being overran with Ohio missionaries...COME BACK!

Now It's Really Over

Omitting the five turnovers the Wolverines had yesterday, their performance versus the Buckeyes wasn't all that bad. Yes, Ohio State did win their sixth game in a row against Michigan. Yes, this means that Michigan definitely will not make a bowl appearance for the second year in a row, which is also the second season for Rich Rodriguez. Yes, the five turnovers were all by the starting quarterback, and four of them were interceptions. Yes, this was the last game of the season, and yes, it was at home.

But the final score was 21-10, which, considering OSU is ranked #10, is not the worst thing that could have happened. The defense played pretty well, and Denard Robinson had some successful running plays (although his lack of playing time leaves one to wonder if he can do anything else).

It was really sweet of Tate Forcier to text the Associated Press to publicize his feelings. "I lost that game." I'm glad he knows what happened.

Thanks for the reminder...

In case you did not know that the Michigan Wolverines were on the brink of one of their worst seasons ever, the New York Times chose to remind us today.

Q: what's the only sign of intelligent life in columbus?

A: Ann Arbor: 187 miles

Big game tomorrow...GO BLUE!

A Buckeye Joke

Coaches Jim Tressel and Lloyd Carr are walking down the beach talking about the rivalry between Ohio State and Michigan. As they are walking, Lloyd trips over something in the sand. Upon closer inspection it turns out to be a genie’s lamp. “Who disturbs me?” asked the genie. Jim and Lloyd both say they did. “You will each get one wish,” said the genie. Jim offers to go first. “I want an impenetrable wall built around the entire state of Ohio so that none of those stupid Michiganders can ever get in. I want it as far down into the ground as it is high and I want it to be completely sealed in so that we can finally have our peace!” The genie grants the wish to Jim and he is instantly whisked away to his new paradise. The genie now tells Lloyd he’ll grant him one wish. Lloyd says, “Fill it with water.”

Yes, it's that time of year. Michigan will be facing Ohio State on Saturday, and let's all plan on watching the upset of the century in the Big House. Keep your hopes up that Rich Rodriguez can pull through. More jokes to come...

Wisconsin Defeats Michigan

This weekend I went to Madison, Wisconsin, to visit friends and attend the Michigan vs. Wisconsin football game. Traditionally, the Wolverines are much better at football than the Badgers, but on Saturday, this was not the case. Wisconsin, ranked #20, overpowered Michigan to the point of embarrassment. Michigan looked like a different team when compared to the start of the season; they were outscored 24-7 in the second half (for some reason I thought they used to be pretty clutch).

At this point, it is really hard to say what the Wolverines’ can do to salvage their pride, because they can basically forget about salvaging their season. A win over Ohio State on Saturday, though unfathomable, would boost morale for the team and the school. Let’s cross our fingers, say a prayer, and hope that the football gods will look down on Ann Arbor for a few hours and send some positive karma our way so that the team currently ranked second-to-last in the Big Ten can upset the first place team.

Some interesting notes about Camp Randall Stadium: This was my first experience in a stadium other than the Big House, and while the Badgers may have played better on Saturday, their atmosphere is a bit weird. The cheers coming from the student section (other than my friends and I being called “Asshole”) did not make sense. Wisconsin’s big screens featured interviews with players, which is creative, but the stars of their own football team were virtually unable to articulate answers when asked if they had any pre-game superstitions. However, it should be noted that the “Jump Around” cheer after the third quarter really does make the stadium shake, and it was pretty fun to be part of that.

Final Score: 45-24
