Steve Smith Out with Broken Arm
Football is a dangerous sport. There have been more than 1,600 deaths related to participation in the game, and concussions for high school players alone are estimated at 40,000 per year. By the end of their lives, scientists are practically begging to use his players’ bodies as specimens, not because of superior athleticism, but because of the serious long term health effects from repeat head injuries. Sound healthy? Maybe these stats explain why the the average NFL career only lasts 3.8 years.
All of that being said, you might think Carolina Pathers receiver, four-time Pro Bowl selection Steve Smith is fortunate that it is only a broken left forearm forcing him to miss the start of training camp. You might think that all things considered with this treacherous game we call football that he is lucky to come out so relatively unscathed. You might even think Smith is blessed that his forecasted recovery time places him back on the field well before their September 12 opener vs. the Giants.
But you would have thought wrong.
Smith, the dumb dumb, broke it during a game of flag football… at his own children’s camp… Idiot. There are debates of the team punishing Smith for a contract violation with his injury, but personally I think that might be taking it a tad far – his embarrassment should be punishment alone.
