Yet another episode of Cheating...

We like to keep things rolling at CCUB, and when it comes to athletes cheating, the hits just keep on coming. The World Cup may not start until June, but that didn't stop English captain John Terry from stealing the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. Recently, he was found guilty of engaging in an affair with teammate Wayne Bridge's ex-girlfriend, Vanessa Perroncel. To make matters worse, the reason why we know he was guilty is because he tried to cover up the allegations through secret payments to news media sources, because apparently he was more concerned about protecting his reputation with sponsors than he was with protecting his reputation with his wife Toni. This definitely shows that money can't always save the day, especially if you are a douche. His wife reportedly is leaving him and taking the two kids with her. At this point, she should do whatever she wants, and preferably, not with the scumbag Terry. In regards to his role on the team, Terry has also been stripped from his role as captain. In a world where NBA, NFL, and other American professional sports athletes are seemingly unaffected by marital infidelity, it is nice to see that at least some measures are being taken towards Terry's monumental mistake. But I'm still not sure if it's enough. For every country besides the US, soccer is the one sport that reigns supreme. The soccer players should know that they are role models to literally hundreds of millions of people. Even in the US, when 1998 US World Cup coach Steve Sampson found that one of his players (John Harkes) was cheating with the wife of another (U.S. Hall of Fame striker Eric Wynalda), Harkes not only lost his role as captain, but he got kicked off the team. The English soccer team might be too important and have too much at stake to drop as heralded a player as Terry, but if they really wanted to send a message that morals are more important than medals, that is exactly what they should have done.
