Garciaparra Retires with the Red Sox

Nomar Garciaparra

Nomar Garciaparra will undoubtedly go down in baseball history as one of the greats. Six-time All Star, Silver Slugger Award recipient, and one of only 13 players to ever hit two grand slams in a single game, Boston fans in particular will recall his name in reference to some of the greatest players of our generation. And while Red Sox fans will always think of Garciaparra as their own, it turns out Garciaparra felt the same way. Which is why yesterday he signed a one-day ceremonial contract with the Red Sox to be able to retire in the same uniform he started in. Although Nomar went on to play for the Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers and Oakland Athletics after his 14-year career with the Red Sox, his heart had always remained in Boston.
